The marketplace for design art, craft fashion and other creative endeavors is about to change . Remarkably even as we see drastic changes in the world economy independent entrepreneurs are probably best positioned to survive and succeed. It may mean a few minor changes in their game plan but for many it’s just business as usual. the existing condition has been more or less the same for many of them.

We are focusing on Consumer education- We have heard the designers and product developers, an educated consumer is a satisfied consumer. our designers database project of our sister site Brooklyn Fashion Gallery will be included in DeMarketPlace. We will for the remainder of this month extend an open invitation to every local business to fill to enter their information into out database, which will give them access to many new eb tools for their businesses.
We are renewing our focus on Quality control- We have heard the consumers 9including designers), and will endeavor to provide leads assistance and workshops where necessary t educate local producers and uplift the quality of their products. One bad apple spoils the whole lot, The perception of local sectors is affected by the quality of every product within that marketplace. Especially in tough economic times quality control issues are paramount to the bottom line. Inexpensive does not mean poor quality. As an industry we will work with others to discuss this issue

It is true that many of their local customers have less spending power, but very few really relied on or depended on the local workforce. The fact is that most of those affected by the job cuts and severe economic conditions are customers of larger retailers.
There are three conditions however that are affecting local entrepreneurs:
- Lack of local production and resources
- The rising cost of commercial real estate
- Unpredictable weather conditions
In conceptualizing DemarketPlace we had chosen an organic development plan our intention was to develop a template for business growth building on existing resources, the way average citizens would.
While I am the principal founder and the driving force behind DeMarketplace, the concept came directly from a call by local designers within the Brooklyn Fashion Gallery component of the Artist Mosaic project that I started in 2004. It is my goal to develop realistic working solutions to challenges entrepreneurs face in general and the changing marketplace generated in particular.
This is the second year in developing DeMarketplace concept. I have decided to add a vendor support strategy and extend the concept to that of a virtual enterprise network. Both are not new to my core concepts that creativity, collaboration and community generated commerce. I have however underestimated the need for this type of support. I still maintain that it is an entrepreneurs’ responsibility to understand and take care of his business, however I became cognizant of the fact that not every artist can effectively handle the responsibilities of entrepreneurship and at the same time create and produce the high quality product we desire to become part of the marketplace.
There are however other local business that specialize in certain aspects such a s marketing, production and publishing that could benefit from a steady flow of customers and the establishment of such a network actually benefits all.
In the next few weeks our websites would be undergoing major changes, as usual we do these live so that others may benefit from our process as well as mistakes, The changes will reflect major changes in our program.
